Safe Schools: Secure and Mentally Supportive

  • Description: This panel including safety designers, an educational designer, and an educational planner will share their experiences and expertise for designing space for mental security and physical safety. Safe schools not only promote the protection of students from harm, but also create safe spaces for students to emotionally mature and grow. The workshop/conversation will challenge conceptions of space planning and safety applications as well as provide attendees with understanding on how to implement all forms of safety into their educational environments.

  • Learning Objective 3:Identify attributes of schools of opportunities for mental and physical safety integration.
  • Learning Objective 4:Participate in a discussion about lessons learned and how space can support safe spaces from intruder resistance to mental security.
